HOLLYWOOD, CA,… Lifetime Achievement Award Honors will be presented to legendary talent, Academy Award nominee, Ruby Dee Davis, along with a cadre of diverse industry talent at the 2008 Diversity Awards at Universal Studios Hollywood on Sunday, November 23rd. In addition, fresh off the heels of the critical success of “The Secret Life of Bees,” acclaimed helmer Gina Prince-Bythewood will take home 2008 Visionary Award honors at the 16th annual Diversity Awards along with Diane English taking home Best Adapted screenplay honors for her remake of the 1940’s classic “The Women” which starred Meg Ryan, Anette Benning, Eva Mendes, Debra Messing and Jada Pinkett Smith. The 16th annual Diversity Awards will be held onSunday, November 23rd, at Universal Studios Globe Theatre. 

Following the trend of honoring incredible theatrical and television offerings that bring thought provoking, diverse and creative projects to the fore, the Diversity Awards will additionally honor talented young aspirants Nate Parker and the multi-talented artist and businessman turned actor Cris “Ludacris” Bridges, best known for his multi-platinum hits as rapper and music tastemaker. He and Parker will receive honors as industry talents on the rise, who have made audiences and their peers take note in 2008. They are being joined by fellow award recipients, Mallika Sherawat, who has been described as India’s Julia Roberts, for her multi-talented and dramatic turns that have brought her attention throughout the international film community. 

With this year’s theme “Celebrating Diversity – American Spirit and Global Talent – Making it Happen!” the star-studded black tie gala, known for its top name musical talent and international celebrity guests, will again present awards for creative accomplishment and contributions to diverse perspectives, talent and creativity in the cinematic arts and television. With a cross-section of international stars in film and television always in attendance, television award recipients rounding out the TV categories s include; the casts of A&E’s critically acclaimed drama The Cleaner, starring award-winning actor Benjamin Bratt, TNT Network’s Holly Hunter starrer Saving Grace, Lifetime’s Army Wives, FOX’s Til Death starring Brad Garrett and Jolie Fisher, and ESPN’s Black Magic taking home Best Documentary Made-for-TV-non Theatrical Release award dramas. Bravo Networks will receive top 2008 network award honors. 

With live musical performances and a host of talented stars in attendance, the show again promises to bring together some of the best and the brightest in the industry, showcasing a cross-section of film and television talent from around the world. The show which showcases top name musical acts and an evening of spontaneity and surprise as well, will celebrate its 16th anniversary gala with an array of stars and glitz and glamour befitting the night, and will be taped for syndication for a holiday 2008 airing.
